'I Promise You Heaven'

'I Promise You Heaven' is a short (3min) video by the always epic Jody Jock that will be showing today in a program called PERFORMING OUT DIVERSITY IN QUEER PERFORMANCE as part of 8th Biennial International Queer Arts Festival of Regina, Canada. In it I sit calmly as i'm chocked to death from behind by a mysterious man with back gloves.

You can see the video HERE.

Life in Cloud City

My friend Jacob Sperber ( DJ PeePlay of Homochic and Honey Sound System fame) and novice Sister of Perpetual Indulgence, Barbra Ganesh, will be hosting a procession through the Castro/Mission Dolores that will chronicle some of the history of the Sisters. I'm really effing excited about this. It promises to be educational, spiritual, and fun.

We'll be gathering at 5:30 near 272 Dolores (at corner of 16th St.) dressed all in white.

Friends and Enemies

My dad always told me that you can judge a man by his friends and by his enemies. And i've always put a lot of stock into the idea. If you associate with douchebags, you are yourself a likely candidate for douche-dom, conversely if all the jocks beat you up you are possibly a nerd. So what does it mean for the gay community that our friends are feckless and our enemies so sad and pathetic?

George Alan Rekers is supposed to be a boogie man. He is part of the intellectual heart of the Christian Right, he helped found the Family Research Council (which i won't link to 'cus eff them), and if he was a major advocate of Florida's gay adoption ban. He is supposed to be this titan of bigotry but instead he's just another sad sack that is so afraid of his own desires he tries to control everyone else on the planet that yearns the same way. Just like every pathetic puritan that ever strutted around with buckles on their shoes. This sad sham has been going on for so long it's past cliche. Are there any members of the anti-gay movement that are not themselves self loathing homosexuals? ANY? A single preacher, or politician, or locker room bully? I'm beginning to wonder if there are any straight republicans at all.

How effing sad.

And then we have our 'friends' over at the HRC who decided it was more important to have a shindig for it's Board rather than provide transportation for LGBT vets for their upcoming "Don't ask, don't tell" 'Loby Day,'

First of all guys, Loby Day?

Really?

Second, COME ON!!!!!!!

Thats your photo op right there! The vets, themselves, asking for their Representatives for basic rights while cameras click away. Without that you clearly have nothing. Somehow we found ourselves in a position where you and your ilk our our leaders but i don't know of a single person that truly believes in the HRC or has faith in its leaders. So why are they the only game in town?

Happy May 5th and stuff!

Hola Compadres, and happy Cinco de Mayo!

I'm happy to be back in the City after two epic weeks of travel and family vacation. Thats right, EPIC. First i spent the loveliest possible week with my mom in SoCal: drinking wine, thrift store shopping, and watching procedural teevee (a guilty pleasure of mine and my mother's alike).

After that just about my whole friend-family gathered together at Short Mountain Sanctuary in Tennessee for Beltaine. It's become our yearly pilgrimage; a place for us to reconnect with each other and our community away from the pressures and obligations of life in the Pax Americana. I'll be writing a lot more in the coming days and weeks about SMS and it's place in my life, but for now please let me say that i've come home to California a changed man. I hope a better man. This week spent with my family and my tribe has helped me discover something i've longed for since i was fourteen years old and i realized there was no God.

My life has purpose.

A Few More Short Films

I've got short films on the brain.

And i wanted to share two that really have my attention.

The first is 'The Anachronism,' a steampunk flavored story about young siblings who go on a nature hike and find a giant metal squid.

And the second is called 'The Raven,' a thriller set in a none too distant future Los Angeles

More Love'n

Hi gang! forgive the ensuing diseloquence (which is not a word, but it's all i've got at the moment) but i'm still a little bit in shock, what with me and a good friend of mine sharing a very intimate moment in front of god and the whole of the internets. Don't get me wrong! I'm still super proud of the project. In fact I Want Your Love is going to be a feature length film! I'm not sure how much more of the movie i'm gonna be in, but i do know that Naked Sword is producing and there is gonna be a very sexy indie soundtrack featuring the talents of The Chromatics and Girls (STOKED!!!), and our estimable director, Travis, has given some great interviews. Check 'em out if you'd like to know more about the film.

I Want Your Love

I mentioned a while ago that i had been cast in a short film written and directed directed by Travis Matthews (the director of the amazing 'In Their Room' series). Well it came out today, and i'm really proud of it.

Before i show it to you all i have to warn you.

I have sex in this movie. Not porn-sex, nothing glossy, or hard, or fake.

It's tender-funny-hopeful-loving-friend-sex.

If you've had it, then you know what i'm talking about (if you haven't, my condolences).

So if you are at work, or under the age of 18, or any member of my family who isn't prepared to see me get it on with another dude, PLEASE do not watch this.

That being said...

HERE IT IS.

I'm not sure whether or not its 'porn,' is Shortbus? is Barbarella? I don't think any of them are, but wiser men than I have tried to define pornography (with mixed results).

Either way, i'm proud of it.

Where I'll Be Drinking (ON MY BIRTHDAY!)

Holy shit! Did I just turn 29?

Crazy.

CRAZY.

I've been soooooo busy lately with rehearsals, and promoting, and travel that I haven't even stopped to think about the fact that i'm not dead.

And when it comes to not being dead, well, i'm a big fan of that.

And if YOU are a big fan of me not being dead, this week provides nigh infinite opportunities for you to buy me a drink...

Tonight (tuesday) is Chaser: Shadefest2010. Monistat has talked Ambrosia Salad and Vivvyanne ForeverMORE into a three way, bare knuckle, battle to the death (in flawless face). I can't think of a better way to spend my birthday then watching three of my favorite Queens mercilessly cut each other down (in flawless face). And after the blood letting we can shake our booties to DJ Stereogamus.

Tomorrow night (wednesday) I hope you can join myself and the rest of the Bright Young Gentlemen at OH! our new monthly party at the Power House. Last month's party was more fun than should be allowed by law; all of my favorite people, in my favorite bar, drinking and laughing and flirting... with cravats! Awesome, right?

Thursday night my air-band, Ambrosia and the Bearnstiens, is once again headlining Art Attack. Our Fat Fame Monster Tour brings all the tasty air-band magic that you've come to expect from us adorable, attention-whoring scamps; costumes! guest stars! card board instruments! and MORE! Take it from me, this show is gonna be kinda epic. 5$ all night, We go on at midnight, but come early, there are a lot of great performers lined up.

Friday night at 7pm we have a meeting everybody's favorite radical queer book club, The League of Burnt Children. This is the first meeting for the new book, THE COLOR OF SUMMER [Another Garden of Earthly Delights] by REINALDO ARENAS. There will be snacks, wine, intelligent conversation with handsome and charming gentlemen. And at 8 there will be a screening of Before Night Falls, a great movie about Arenas' life.

Afterwards we'll be trotting over to the Stud for SOMETHING Presents:

Ye Olde THING: A Drag Renn. Faire. Thats right boys and girls, Vivvy and the gang are bringing you fist-fulls of mead-swigging, dragon-slaying, Queen-loving realness. At this point i think it's safe to say that SOMETHING is consistently the best drag show in The City. Get into it.

Save some energy for saturday, my little lushes, because the gentlemen from HomoChic have something special in store for you: INTERLACE Music by three my favorite local DJs (DJ PeePlay, Kendig, and Malaki). And the presentation of three very special projects, DJ PeePlay's HNYSNDSYSTM Compilation BROTHERHOOD, Leo Herrera's "Marilyn" music video, starring Amanda Lepore. And Allan Herrera's style website the HOMO Atelier (co-designed by Ernesto Sopprani)

I could lie and say i'm going out Sunday, but my liver is going to be so scarred at this point i'm going to need all of May to recover.

Happy Birthday to me!
