Life in Legos

I ran across this today on Wired, and i couldn't resist bring it to everyone's attention. I've loved Lego blocks ever since i was a wee one, and i'm a big believer that they are one of the best toys for children, ever. Following the instructions and building a pirate ship, or a space station, or a medieval castle, is a great confidence builder for a young kid, and once you've done that you can let your imagination run wild and build anything you can dream of.

Pelosi Protested in L.A.

Recently at an event @ American Jewish University in Los Angeles (to promote her new book) protesters gave our esteemed congressperson a hard time over her refusal to consider articles of impeachment.

With courageous leadership like that I can't imagine why congress only has a 9% approval rating.

BREAKING NEWS! Alan Colms has Spine!

The "discussion" got heated today on Fox News' Hannity and Colms when "liberal" commentator Alan Colms had the temerity to bring up John McCain's past infidelities.



The Extra fun part is when EVERYONE ignores Mr. Colms and continues to follow the Fox approved talking points (i.e. no one can trust John Edwards the cheater) except for Hannity who just sticks his fingers in his ears and repeats over and over again "John McCain was in a POW camp for five and a half years!" Gosh, i guess that makes it okay to cheat on your wife with a Beer Baroness.

The Beatification of Harvey Milk

Yesterday the California State Senate declared May 22nd to be 'Harvey Milk Day' on a 22-13 party-line vote.

"Not one Republican voted for the bill, which also says the day shall have special significance in public school and other educational institutions and 'encourages those entities to conduct suitable commemorative exercises on that date.' Sen. Dave Cox (R-Fair Oaks) said his vote against the measure had nothing to do with who was involved. 'In school, we ought to concentrate on writing, reading and arithmetic,' he said, adding that the schools don’t need other requirements placed on them by the Legislature. The bill must return to the Assembly for concurrence on some minor amendments before it goes to the governor."

The bill's author, State Assemblyman Mark Leno, was quoted as saying "Both houses of our Legislature have now honored Harvey Milk’s important civil rights legacy, and I am hopeful the governor will sign this bill so that California officially recognizes the message of hope and pride his life inspired."

My friend Tas would tell me that this is empty and distracting, and legislatures have no business declaring any holidays at all, and should focus on more concrete legislation. but i can't help but feel all warm and fuzzy.
