The BART that Could Be

I'm obsessed with this map. I've probably looked at it twenty times since i found it over at Laughing Squid. It's a tantalizing look at a Bay Area living up to it's awesome potential.

It's very cool, yes. And yet I can't help thinking about what I'd do with $75 billion that would help people in the Bay Area even more. Y'know, like lift everyone out of poverty.

A BART that actually served all nine counties of the Bay Area would be a $75 billion investment in the infrastructure and economy of the Bay Area. Which would not only create thousands of jobs in the construction and many hundreds in the expanded operation, but it would also decrease air pollution and increase quality of life. "Very cool," indeed.
